Draw the Circle Wide: Making Your Church’s Digital Communications More Accessible

Brief

For our agency’s annual Communication Learning Week webinar series, I was asked to select and present on a relevant, practical topic for local church communicators.

Learning Solution

Having learned a lot about accessibility as it applies to instructional design, and seeing the important role of accessibility in the denomination’s mission, I created a webinar on digital accessibility basics for church leaders. The 40-minute session introduced the range of needs accessible communications can meet and gave examples of how to make images, text, audio and video, and language more accessible. I closed the webinar with a Q&A period.

As I did for all 24 webinars that week, I provided a video recording with carefully edited closed captions and a transcript the next day.

Tools Used

PowerPoint, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Vimeo, Camtasia

Results

  • The webinar was presented live and as a recording to over 200 learners.

  • 100% of learners who responded to a post-webinar survey rated it “very helpful” to their work as a communicator.

  • “Incredibly helpful information that we can put into use immediately - thank you so much.”
