Digital Communications for the Church (ILT)
Brief
I developed this 3-hour instructor-led training for the Academy of Church Business Administration, which provides professional development for candidates pursuing Certified Church Administrator (CCA) certification through The Church Network. It includes an overview of the salience of and strategy for digital communication for churches. It also delves into best practices for websites and social media.
Learning Solution
Because this training session is scheduled on the last day of a nine-day series covering 18 topics, I knew that keeping participants engaged in the content would be critical. In addition, the learners have diverse backgrounds and experiences in church administration. I organized the training with short periods of instructor-fronted presentation interspersed with whole-group discussions, individual reflection activities, and plenty of pair and small-group activities to apply the content.
I created three pieces of content to drive this training:
A detailed 46-page facilitator’s guide with an overview of learning objectives, a breakdown of the training schedule, and content points to cover for each subtopic;
A slide deck with key terms and concepts plus visual examples of concepts taught; and
A 28-page participant workbook with note-taking outlines for key points, discussion questions and activities, visual examples from the slide deck, and links to resources for further learning.
