Digital Communication for Small and Rural Churches

Brief

Leadership from the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church requested a one-hour webinar for their numerous local church leaders in rural communities. They needed best practices for communicating with their members and communities in these settings.

Learning Solution

To ensure that I did not lean on my own assumptions about what communications challenges these learners faced, I created and distributed a survey before creating the webinar content. I used the survey data to focus the topics covered. Furthermore, I referenced it within the webinar to reinforce the personalization and relevance of the content to these learners.

To further personalize the webinar, I used Mentimeter to collect and share live responses to questions throughout.

Results

130 church leaders attended the webinar. Of those completing the evaluation, 83% said they were likely to implement what they learned in their work.
