AI Basics for Church Communicators

Brief

I was tasked with developing an eLearning course to precede a webinar on AI prompt engineering for local church communicators. I had touched on AI tools in a previous training and observed that many learners in our organization had minimal understanding of AI, though there was a lot of interest in how it could serve them.

Learning Solution

I built a course in Storyline with distinct but interconnected modules, allowing each learner to personalize their experience by selecting topics that filled gaps in their own knowledge. In explaining the concept of AI, I focused on giving simple examples rather than overly technical information. I also included screenshots of content output from a variety of AI tools using prompts that the learners themselves might use in their work as church communicators.

Tools Used

  • Articulate Rise

  • Canva

  • Zoom

  • Camtasia

  • Thinkific

  • AI tools: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Perplexity, Ideogram, Canva Magic Media, Vidyo

Results

  • 93% of learners say they are likely to use the skills gained in their work

  • 93% of learners would recommend the microcourses to a colleague

    • “This was a real eye opener for me, and I'm a very techy person! …clear and concise, without being dry and draggy.”

    • “Very helpful. I look forward to putting into action the tools learned.”
